Appointments and Services

To schedule an appointment, call 401-865-2422. In the event of an emergency or when the Student Health Center is closed, EMTs are available through the Office of Public Safety at 401-865-2391. Appointments are required for all visits.

All full-time undergraduate students who are registered for classes at Providence College have access to health care at the Student Health Center. There is no fee for services offered, however, all students are required to maintain adequate health insurance to cover unexpected medical expenses.

The Student Health Center treats most illnesses and accident-related injuries.  The center provides laboratory services (e.g. throat cultures, urinalysis, blood draws, STI testing, etc.) but does not provide x-ray or surgical services, treatment for major illnesses, immunizations* or allergy shots. The center refers students who need those services to a local hospital or physician and students assume financial responsibility for off-campus services.

Women and Men’s Health
Confidential HIV testing, as well as testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, is available to students in the health center. Examinations are free of charge, though laboratory testing and prescribed medications are the financial responsibility of the student. Because of the values of Providence College as a Catholic, Dominican college, the Student Health Center, as a matter of policy, does not prescribe treatment or provide materials on preventing conception or that encourage termination of pregnancy.

Sick Visits
Sick visits are offered in the Student Health Center. These visits include, but are not limited to, cold, cough, respiratory infections, sore throat, skin disorders, minor injuries, concussions, fevers, stomach symptoms, headaches, eye and ear problems, suture and staple removal, wound care and UTIs.

Financial Policy
There is no fee to be seen in the Student Health Center, and we do not bill insurance. At times additional testing may be required as part of medical treatment and such services may need to be provided by community partners who do bill insurance. This could include laboratory tests, X-rays, medication prescriptions, specialist referrals, and other diagnostic testing. It is the student’s responsibility to verify that insurance is up to date and that any outside referrals are in-network.
